Humboldt Jiu Jitsu Academy presents a Women and Girl’s Self-Defense Seminar on Sunday, February 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Women and girls are welcome to attend (minimum age 11). The participants will achieve an increased sense of self confidence, learn effective self-defense techniques and experience confrontation in a safe environment.

The instructor is Monty Martin. Monty first started training martial arts under North Coast Self Defense Academy founding instructor Hal Faulkner in 1997. Under H. Faulkner he trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Jeet Kun Do, Muay Thai and Kali Escrima. Monty has twin daughters whom have also trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2008. He continues to train and teach Gracie Jiu Jitsu Self Defense while also training in sport and advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under black belts Marcelo Daflon and Master Professor Ari Galo from the legendary Carlson Gracie team. His class BJJ Fundamentals and Beyond is comprised of unifying classic fundamentals of BJJ and intermediate to advanced technique. He also teaches Self-Defense Combatives classes, women’s self-defense seminars and private lessons. He is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt and is always excited to learn and pass on knowledge to the next generation of martial artists as he continues with his own progression.

Monty will be assisted by award-winning wrestler from Arcata High School: Lydia Kenyon who is the junior instructor at Humboldt Jiu Jitsu.

The cost is $35; high school and college students get a discounted $20 ticket. Mother/daughter combos are $45.
